Kherwadi Police have arrested a driver who stole ₹25 lakh in cash from a developer’s car in Bandra and fled. The accused, Gurudev Subhash Patil, was caught by the police, who successfully recovered ₹23.72 lakh from him. According to Senior Police Inspector Kavidas Jambhale, Patil already has three criminal cases registered against him at Dharavi Police Station.
Developer Naved Mohammed Siddiqui, a resident of Bandra, had brought ₹25 lakh to his office for business purposes on February 20. He left the cash in his car and later went to Vakola and then the MHADA office in Bandra, accompanied by his friend Gaurav Arora. Before entering the MHADA office, Siddiqui informed his driver, Gurudev, about the cash and asked him to keep an eye on the vehicle.
However, when Siddiqui returned around 1:30 PM, both Gurudev and the car were missing. He immediately tried calling Gurudev, but the calls went unanswered. Upon inquiring with office staff, he was told that his car was parked near an electricity office. When he checked, the vehicle was there, but the cash was gone. Realizing that the driver had fled with the money, Siddiqui approached Kherwadi Police and lodged a complaint.
Acting swiftly, Senior Inspector Kavidas Jambhale assigned the case to PSI Pradeep Londhe and a team of officers, including constables More, Pawar, Thombre, Sarvade, Patil, and Gaikwad. During the investigation, police discovered that Gurudev had a criminal record, with multiple cases of robbery and possession of deadly weapons registered against him at Dharavi Police Station.
Following a tip-off, police officers in plain clothes kept a watch at Thane Railway Station and apprehended Gurudev. Upon interrogation, he confessed to the theft. The police recovered ₹23.72 lakh in ₹500 currency notes from him.
The accused is currently in police custody, and further investigations are underway.
