In connection with the murder of a college lecturer aboard a Malad-bound local train, the Borivali Railway Police on Wednesday conducted a detailed crime scene recreation. The arrested accused, Omkar Shinde, was taken to the spot, where police recreated the sequence of events to gain clarity on the incident.

According to railway police officials, during the reconstruction exercise, the accused pointed out the foot overbridge that he allegedly used to flee the scene after committing the crime. The objective of the recreation was to clearly establish the chain of events and collect additional evidence.

In a significant development, the police also recovered the weapon used in the murder on the basis of the accused’s disclosure. The weapon, a small pair of pincers commonly used for jewellery work, was allegedly used to carry out the attack. During interrogation, the accused had stated that he had thrown the weapon within the Malad railway premises after the incident. Following a search, the police recovered the weapon, which has now been sent for forensic examination.

Police officials said blood stains of the deceased were found on the weapon, making it a crucial piece of evidence for the prosecution. Efforts are ongoing to further strengthen the case by collecting additional material evidence.

Statements of the deceased lecturer’s colleagues, who were travelling with him at the time of the incident and are eyewitnesses to the crime, have already been recorded. The statement of Malad station master Mohammad Nasrullah Ansari has also been taken. He had provided first aid to the injured lecturer on the platform.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) further stated that efforts are being made to identify and record statements of independent witnesses from among other passengers travelling in the train, in order to build a strong and watertight case against the accused.
