The Khar Police have arrested two domestic help in connection with the theft of diamond-studded jewellery and cash from the residence of a businesswoman in the upscale Khar area. The accused have been identified as Deepa Yadav and Vaishali Nalawade. Both women are currently in police custody and recovery of the stolen items is expected soon.

According to police, the complainant is a 56-year-old businesswoman residing in Khar. She employed two cooks, Savitri and Vaishali, and was looking to hire an additional domestic worker. While browsing through an agency's website, she came across the profile of Deepa Yadav, who was subsequently sent to her residence on January 26.

After a thorough background check and discussion, Deepa was hired and assigned duties from 9 AM to 7 PM. However, she stopped reporting to work without any notice. The employer then contacted the agency, after which Deepa returned to work on January 28. On the same day, the complainant's mother-in-law discovered that Rs 21,000 in cash was missing from her cupboard. When questioned, all three maids—Savitri, Vaishali, and Deepa—denied any involvement in the theft.

As Deepa continued to remain absent from work without valid reasons, the complainant filed a complaint with the agency and requested a replacement. Between February 20 and March 13, the complainant went on an international trip. On March 25, when she attempted to retrieve some diamond-studded jewellery from her cupboard, she discovered that jewellery and cash worth approximately Rs 3.75 lakh were missing.

Following the discovery, she lodged a formal complaint at the Khar Police Station and expressed suspicion against Deepa. Based on the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation.

During the course of the probe, both Deepa and Vaishali were taken in for questioning on Saturday. Upon interrogation, the duo confessed to the theft. Subsequently, the police arrested both Deepa Yadav and Vaishali Nalawade under charges of theft.

Police officials said efforts are underway to recover the stolen cash and jewellery. Further investigation is ongoing.
