The rising graph of crime in Mumbai witnessed yet another shocking incident on Saturday, when a man attacked a woman with a sharp weapon in broad daylight in the Worli area, leaving her seriously injured. Acting swiftly, the Worli Police and Mumbai Crime Branch arrested the accused and he was brought to Worli Police Station for further investigation.

The incident took place on Saturday, April 19, 2025, around 1:20 PM near J.K. Ghaffoor Chowk on Sarpoch Khanwala Road, in front of the Rifle and Pistol Range in Worli. The victim, a 43-year-old woman, was walking along the street when an unknown person — dressed in a mud-blue t-shirt with “SCORER” written on it and black pants — suddenly attacked her from behind with a sharp weapon, causing severe injuries.

Upon receiving the information, the injured woman was immediately rushed to KEM Hospital for medical treatment.

Considering the seriousness of the case, police teams reached the spot without delay and began recording statements of eyewitnesses. During the probe, CCTV footage from nearby cameras showed a suspicious man trailing the victim. The footage clearly captured the moment when the accused took an object from his pocket and attacked the woman. Based on the footage, the police identified the suspect moving towards Worli Naka.

Launching a swift manhunt, the Mumbai Police successfully tracked down and apprehended the accused near the Shiv Sena Shakha at Prem Nagar, Worli Naka. During interrogation, the man was identified as a drug addict, and it was confirmed that he was under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the crime.

Senior Police Inspector of Worli Police, Ravindra Katkar said that the accused has been arrested and further investigation is being done.

The accused has been identified as Sachin Bhagwana Avasarmol, 37, a resident of Patel Nagar in Sambhajinagar district, Maharashtra. After preliminary questioning, he was handed over to Worli Police for further legal action.

This swift action was executed by a dedicated team of Worli Police officer Kunal Rupwate, API Sutar and Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 3, led by API Amol Mali, PSI Goregaonkar, Head Constables Ravindra Dewarde, Vinod Parab, Ashok Patil, Vaibhav Girkar, Constable Vikas Chavan, along with Head Constables Sachin Kamble and Kiran Parab from Unit 2.
