Agripada Police have held a man for allegedly mentally harassing a 32-year-old woman doctor for nearly four years by repeatedly pressuring her for marriage through calls, messages and letters, and by repeatedly visiting her workplace. The accused has been identified as Shivkumar Vasant Girgante. After his arrest, he was served a notice and released, police said.
According to the police, the complainant is a 32-year-old doctor who is currently pursuing her studies at Nair Hospital in Agripada. In May 2022, she had shared her details on a private matrimonial website. On May 5, 2022, she received a call from a man who introduced himself as Shivkumar Girgante and proposed marriage, claiming to have obtained her number from the matrimonial platform. She clearly informed him that she was not interested in getting married at that time and disconnected the call.
However, the accused allegedly continued to send her messages. The doctor informed her parents about the incident and blocked his number. Despite this, Girgante allegedly continued to contact her over the next few years using different mobile numbers, repeatedly calling and messaging her and causing mental distress.
Police said that for the past two years, while the complainant was studying at Nair Hospital, the accused resumed contacting her from alternate numbers. Even after being blocked multiple times, he allegedly persisted in harassing her. On September 12, 2025, one of her colleague doctors informed her that a person named Shivkumar had come to the hospital asking to meet her and even shared his photograph for identification. She refused to meet him.
Despite her refusal, the accused allegedly kept visiting Nair Hospital frequently. On December 10, 2025, he reportedly sent a letter addressed to one of her senior doctors and later continued to send letters to her through different hospital staff members. Due to continuous calls, messages, letters and repeated visits to her workplace, the doctor was under severe mental stress for the past several days, police said.
On Wednesday around 4 pm, Girgante once again came to the hospital. With the help of a security guard at Nair Hospital, the woman doctor managed to detain him and handed him over to Agripada Police. Based on her complaint, the police registered a case and arrested the accused in connection with the offence.
