Police found a decomposed, headless body of a man on Monday, February 9, on Juhu Koliwada beach in Mumbai. The deceased man was identified as Anil Gaud, a 30-year-old resident who had been missing for over two weeks. Investigators have detained Gaud's wife for questioning in connection with the death.
Gaud was reportedly missing since January 29. The police suspect that the man was killed and his body was cut to packed in a sack before being dumped into the sea in an attempt to destroy evidence. The police said the body was seen at around 9.30 am by a constable who was patrolling near the jetty at Juhu Chowpatty.
According to the police, the body was packed in a blue polythene bag lying about 40 metres from the jetty and they saw something unusual inside it. Upon closer inspection, he found a cement sack containing a human body.
Mumbai Police have formally registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), invoking Section 103(1): Punishment for murder. Section 238: Causing the disappearance of evidence of an offence, or giving false information to screen an offender.
