Santacruz Police have arrested a domestic help who allegedly fled with valuables worth approximately ₹10.25 lakh from the residence of a 73-year-old man, barely ten days after being employed.
The accused has been identified as Subhash Kumar Dilip Kumar Singh. Police have recovered part of the stolen property from his possession.
According to police sources, the complainant, originally a resident of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, currently resides in Santacruz with his wife. Due to his advanced age, he had hired Subhash Kumar as a domestic help through Procare Health Advisors company, on the recommendation of a friend named Madhu. The accused joined duty on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
On Monday, February 16, the elderly couple retired to bed after dinner. When they woke up around 8:30 am on Tuesday morning, they found that Subhash Kumar was missing from the house.
Growing suspicious, the complainant inspected his room and discovered that his mobile phone, bank debit and credit cards, and ₹4,000 in cash were missing from his bag. Further inquiry revealed that ₹9.90 lakh had been withdrawn using his credit card.
Realising that valuables worth around ₹10.25 lakh had been stolen, the complainant immediately approached Santacruz Police and lodged a complaint. Following this, police registered a case of theft against Subhash Kumar Singh and launched a special operation to trace and arrest him.
Within a few hours of initiating the search operation, police successfully apprehended the accused. The stolen mobile phone and cash have been recovered from his possession.
The accused was produced before the court, which remanded him to police custody for further investigation.
