A woman doctor was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances at Jagjivan Ram Hospital, a medical facility run by Western Railway, causing concern among the hospital staff. The deceased has been identified as Dr Anuja Kulkarni, an unmarried physician who served in the hospital’s Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department. The unexpected incident has shocked colleagues and medical workers at the facility, prompting questions about the circumstances surrounding her death. Authorities have begun looking into the matter to determine what exactly happened, while hospital employees expressed grief and disbelief over the sudden loss of their colleague.
According to a report by Indo-Asian News Service citing officials, the matter surfaced on Wednesday when Dr Kulkarni failed to reach the operation theatre for surgeries scheduled for the day. Following the development, Mumbai Police registered a case under the Accidental Death Report (ADR) category at Tardeo Police Station and initiated an investigation. Police said the doctor had several operations planned that day. When she did not appear at the designated time, colleagues grew worried and repeatedly tried to call her. However, despite multiple attempts to reach her on the phone, there was no response, raising an alarm among the hospital staff.
A junior doctor later went to check on Dr Kulkarni in her room located on the fourth floor of the hospital building. After knocking several times without getting any reply, the doctor peered through the glass panel on the door and noticed Kulkarni lying motionless on the floor close to a chair. The hospital administration was immediately informed about the situation, and senior doctors rushed to the room. They examined her soon after and confirmed that she had already passed away, leaving the staff shocked and prompting authorities to begin further inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her death.

After being informed, police officials arrived at the hospital and inspected the room where the doctor’s body was found. They conducted a panchnama and began collecting initial evidence. During the preliminary inquiry, investigators discovered that the door of the room was locked from the inside, which added to the mystery of the incident. The body was later shifted to Sir JJ Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Once the medical procedure was completed, the remains were handed over to her family members for final rites.
Officials said the precise reason behind Dr Kulkarni’s death will be known only after the post-mortem findings are released. Meanwhile, investigators have begun examining electronic evidence to piece together the sequence of events. Police have seized footage from several CCTV cameras installed across the hospital premises, including those on the fourth floor where the incident occurred. Authorities hope the recordings will help establish a clearer timeline and determine whether any unusual activity took place before the doctor was found dead, as the investigation into the case continues.
