A fire broke out early Sunday morning at Pann Ali Mansion, a high-rise building near Ram Mandir in Masjid Bandar. The blaze, reported at 6:11 a.m., was confined to electric wiring and installations in the common meter box and passage on the ground floor of the 11-story structure, according to Mumbai Fire Brigade officials.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 6:31 a.m. However, thick smoke spread through the building, leading to multiple suffocation cases. Two women suffered injuries to their hands and legs while attempting to escape on the first floor. Both were taken to J.J. Hospital in a police van. A man on the sixth floor and a woman on the eighth floor also suffered from smoke inhalation and were taken to the hospital in private vehicles.
According to Dr. Navin from G.T. Hospital, a 20-year-old man, Karim Shaikh, was admitted due to suffocation and is in stable condition. Dr. Sumit, the chief medical officer at J.J. Hospital, confirmed that 42-year-old Sabila Khatun Shaikh was declared dead on arrival due to burn injuries. Two other women, Sajiya Alam Shaikh, 30, and Shahin Shaikh, 22, were admitted with injuries and are stable.
