A theft of gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 8 lakh has come to light from the residence of a well-known doctor in Dadar. The incident is believed to have occurred when an unidentified thief gained entry into the flat and made away with various gold items without leaving any immediate trace. Following the complaint, Shivaji Park Police have registered a case of theft and initiated a search for the accused with the help of CCTV footage.

According to the police, the incident took place between April 2 and April 15, 2025. The complainant, 54-year-old Sameer Shinde, lives with his wife, son, and elderly mother. Both Dr. Shinde and his wife, Dr. Nandini Shinde, are practicing doctors and jointly operate a private clinic named “Shinde Children’s Clinic” in Dadar. The couple also visits a hospital located in Jogeshwari for professional consultations. The household employs two women for cooking and cleaning duties.

On April 12, a technician had visited the Shinde residence for air conditioner servicing. The technician reportedly worked at the house for about two to three hours before leaving. Over the next few days, both Dr. Shinde and his wife remained occupied with their professional commitments and did not check their belongings.

Dr. Nandini Shinde had kept several gold ornaments, which she had received as part of her ‘stridhan’ 26 years ago, safely locked in a bedroom cupboard. It was only on April 15, when the family was preparing to attend a relative’s wedding, that she discovered the jewellery was missing from the cupboard.

Despite thoroughly searching the entire house, the family could not locate gold ornaments estimated to be worth Rs 8.16 lakh. It became clear that an unidentified person had gained access to the flat and stolen the valuables before fleeing the scene.

The family immediately reported the incident to Shivaji Park Police Station, which subsequently registered a case against an unknown person under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Police have also seized CCTV footage from the building and surrounding areas, which is now being examined to identify the suspect.

Sources from the police department have indicated that both the domestic help and the technician who serviced the air conditioner will soon be questioned in connection with the case. Investigators believe the interrogation might provide crucial leads in solving the theft.
