Mumbai Gold Theft Case: Salary Dispute Angle Emerges In Rs 5.28 Crore Gold Bangles Robbery In Kandivali
A major theft case has come to light from the Charkop area of Kandivali, where three security guards allegedly stole a box containing gold bangles worth ₹5.28 crore from a jewellery manufacturing company and fled the premises. Preliminary information suggests that one of the accused claimed he committed the theft over an alleged salary dispute.
Charkop Police have registered a theft case against the three accused security guards and launched an investigation. The accused have been identified as Mohammad Safir alias Mohammad Ahamaj, Vikas, and Shahbaz Gujjar. Teams from Charkop Police and the local Crime Branch are currently searching for them.
The incident has created panic among company officials and employees, especially as the alleged theft was carried out by the firm's own security personnel.
According to police, the incident occurred between approximately 8:15 pm and 9:30 pm on May 14, 2026, at Shreeji Manufacturers located in Kandivali Industrial Estate near Hindustan Naka, Charkop, Kandivali.
The complainant, 63-year-old Ashok Amritlal Vaya, a resident of Bhumi Celestia Apartment on Marve Road in Charkop, runs a jewellery manufacturing business involved in producing ornaments from raw gold. His company, Shreeji Manufacturers, employs 32 workers and three security guards.
Police said the company had stored 22-carat gold bangles weighing around 3,176 grams, valued at ₹5.28 crore, in a logistics box within the premises.
On Thursday night, one of the security guards, Mohammad Safir, who was assigned to the ground floor, allegedly sent a WhatsApp message to the owner stating that he was quitting the job due to non-payment of salary.
Following the message, the complainant attempted to contact him but received no response. He then asked company manager Mahendra Satikyuvar to visit the premises and verify the situation.
Upon reaching the company, the manager reportedly found that all three security guards were missing and their phones were unreachable. During an inspection of the premises, he also discovered that the box containing the gold bangles was missing.
The owner was immediately informed and rushed to the company before approaching Charkop Police and filing a complaint.
After preliminary verification, police registered a case of theft against the three accused. Senior officers have taken serious note of the incident and directed teams to ensure the early arrest of the accused.
Police have also obtained CCTV footage from the surrounding area and launched a special operation to trace and apprehend the suspects. The Crime Branch is conducting a parallel investigation into the case.
