The Government Railway Police(GRP) successfully arrested an accused involved in the kidnapping of a 5-year-old child from Goregaon within 24 hours. The child was safely rescued from the accused’s custody and handed over to the family, police officials confirmed. The accused claimed that he kidnapped the child as he did not have children of his own, but police are conducting further investigations.

The complainant, a resident under the railway bridge in Goregaon East, reported that her 5-year-old son was kidnapped from near the Goregaon railway station bridge. The accused, Karan Kanojiya (24), was identified as a friend of the complainant’s husband. On February 12, Kanojiya abducted the child, prompting the complainant to lodge a report at Borivali Railway Police Station.

Considering the seriousness of the case, the police registered a kidnapping case under Section 137(2) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita. The investigation was handed over to Police Inspector Shinde and his team, who immediately reviewed CCTV footage from the area and gathered information through informants. The accused was traced to the Kalyan area, following which a police team, along with Crime Branch officials, laid a trap.

On Wednesday around 9 PM, the accused was spotted with a young child in Kalyan. The police team swiftly detained him, and upon inquiry, the child confirmed his identity, proving he was the kidnapped boy. Inspector Shinde and the team arrested the accused and rescued the child, bringing both to Borivali.

During interrogation, the accused identified himself as Sanoj Kumar Ramferan Kanojiya, alias Karan Kanojiya (24). He revealed that he lived under the railway bridge near Goregaon station as he had no permanent residence in Mumbai. He was arrested early Thursday morning. The rescued child was reunited with his family.

The accused confessed that he intended to take the child to his native village in Lucknow as he did not have children of his own. However, the police are investigating all possible angles, including whether the accused had any other motives behind the kidnapping. Further investigation is underway.
