Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that Mumbai has now transitioned from being the financial capital of India to the technology hub of India. He made these remarks at the MumbAI Tech Week 2025. "Mumbai has lived its time as the financial capital, but it will always be the tech capital," Fadnavis said while speaking to Rishi Darda, Joint Managing Director & Editorial Director of Lokmat Media, at Mumbai Tech Week 2025, highlighting the city's role in driving digital transformation, tackling cybercrime, and fostering innovation. "We are focusing on the tech revolution."

CM Fadnavis mentioned the rise in cybercrime-related cases and said that the nature of crime is evolving. He said, “70% of crimes will be cyber related and 30% will be from the street.” Maharashtra has built a dedicated cyber headquarters to combat the crime. It has also built an integrated platform that connects banks, non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), and other institutions to address all the fraudulent activities being reported.

CM Fadnavis also acknowledged that Maharashtra had faced several infrastructure challenges in the past that led to the shift of IT cells from here to Hyderabad and Bangalore. He said that now, the state is very optimistic about the situation and current progress. He said Navi Mumbai is now home to 60% of India’s Data Centers. He added that M-Hub, a startup incubator, will soon open to promote creativity and offer "plug-and-play" workspaces to draw tech companies back to the city.

He also mentioned that in his first term, from 2014 to 2019, the government was focusing on water conservation and improving infrastructure. Proper attention will be given to infrastructure development, but apart from that, the government will focus on technology because artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the way of governance. He said that the focus of the BJP-led Mahayuti will be on technology as it has power to accelerate our growth.
