A 46-year-old man was killed after being hit by a speeding truck near the Sahar Air Cargo Complex at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Vile Parle on Monday evening. The Sahar Police have registered a case of causing death by negligence against the truck driver, who fled the scene after the accident.

The deceased has been identified as Ganesh Pandurang Lotankar (46). The accident occurred around 7:45 pm in front of the Pharma Zone at the Sahar Air Cargo Complex premises.

Ganesh’s brother, Santosh Lotankar, resides at Ramnagar in Goregaon. Ganesh lived with his wife and son near Divine School, Mahesh Park, Tulinj Road, Laxmi Kawale Chawl in Nalasopara. He had been working for the past 20 years with Gordon Woodroffe Logistics Limited, a company operating at the Sahar Air Cargo Complex that handles documentation and clearance of cargo transported by air to various countries.

According to police sources, on Monday evening around 6:45 pm, Ganesh was crossing in front of the Pharma Zone to clear some documents as part of his work when an Eicher company truck allegedly rammed into him. The truck’s wheel ran over his waist, leaving him critically injured.

He was immediately rushed to Cooper Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Upon receiving information, the Sahar Police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.

Based on a complaint filed by Santosh Lotankar, police have registered an FIR against the unidentified truck driver for rash and negligent driving leading to death. The driver allegedly fled the scene without providing medical assistance to the injured victim or informing the police.

Police have obtained the truck’s registration number and have launched a search to trace and apprehend the absconding driver. Further investigation is underway.
