In a tragic road accident in the Santacruz area, a delivery boy who fell on the road after being hit by an autorickshaw was crushed under a truck, leading to his death. The deceased has been identified as Akhilesh Vasudev Chaudhary alias Akhilesh Kamat. Vakola Police have registered a case against the unidentified autorickshaw driver and truck driver in connection with the incident.
According to police, both accused drivers fled the scene after the accident. Efforts are underway to trace them with the help of CCTV footage from the area.
The incident took place around 12:15 am on Wednesday night near the New Agripada bus stop on the Western Express Highway in Santacruz. Akhilesh, a native of Madhubani in Bihar, was currently residing in Vasai. He worked as a delivery executive with Zomato and was living in Mumbai Central with his nephew, Arun Chaudhary.
Police said that Akhilesh had come to Santacruz for a delivery when the accident occurred. As he was passing near the bus stop, an autorickshaw allegedly hit him, causing him to fall on the road. In the meantime, a truck coming from behind ran over him, leaving him critically injured.
Local residents rushed him to VN Desai Hospital in Santacruz, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Upon receiving information, Vakola Police reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
Based on the statement of an eyewitness and a complaint filed by Nilambar Chaudhary, police have registered a case against both drivers for causing death due to negligent driving. Notably, both drivers fled without providing medical assistance to the victim or informing the police.
Vakola Police are currently scanning CCTV footage and conducting a search to nab the absconding accused.
