A man who allegedly made a hoax call to the Mumbai Police Control Room, claiming that a bomb blast was about to take place in the city and introducing himself as a member of the notorious 'D Company,' has been arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch and Borivali Police. The accused, identified as a serial hoax caller, has previously made similar threatening calls.
According to police sources, the incident occurred around 2:30 PM on Tuesday when the Mumbai Police Control Room received a call. The caller claimed, “I am from D (Dawood) gang, and there will be blasts in Mumbai,” and abruptly disconnected the call.
A woman police constable who answered the call immediately alerted her senior officers, following which the Mumbai Police swung into action.
Taking the threat seriously, the police quickly traced the caller and detained him from the Borivali area. The accused has been identified as Suraj Jadhav, a resident of Borivali.
Police officials revealed that Jadhav had previously made similar hoax calls a few months ago, warning about a bomb blast in Mumbai. He was arrested at that time as well.
Further investigations uncovered that Jadhav has prior criminal records under IPC sections 323 and 324 and had even been externed (tadipaar) from the area earlier by the police.
In addition to bomb threats, Jadhav is known for frequently calling the control room to report false alarms, such as loudspeakers playing or firecrackers being burst at various locations. However, every time the police verified the claims, they turned out to be baseless.
Mumbai Police officials have expressed concern over the rising number of hoax calls being received at the control room, which not only waste police resources but also divert attention from genuine emergencies.
