In a shocking incident in Bandra East, a 23-year-old woman was allegedly set on fire by her husband over suspicion of infidelity. The woman sustained severe burn injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Kasturba Hospital. Following the complaint, Nirmal Nagar Police registered an attempt to murder case and arrested the accused on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as Simran Salman Qureshi (23), a resident of Behrampada, Bandra East. Her husband, Salman Irshad Qureshi (34), runs a clothing business.

The incident took place on March 21, when an argument broke out between Simran and Salman at their home. The dispute escalated, and in a fit of rage, Salman verbally abused and assaulted his wife. Enraged, he then poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze using a matchstick.

Hearing the screams, neighbors rushed to the scene and took the woman to a local hospital. Due to the severity of her condition, she was immediately shifted to Kasturba Hospital, where doctors confirmed that she had suffered 45% burn injuries.

As Simran's condition stabilized slightly, the police recorded her mother Gauri Qureshi’s (45) statement. Based on her account, it was confirmed that Salman had committed the crime. Subsequently, the Nirmal Nagar Police registered an attempt to murder case against the accused under Sections 109, 79, 115(2), and 352 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Investigations revealed that frequent arguments took place between the couple, with Salman often suspecting his wife's character. On March 21, the quarrel turned violent, resulting in the horrific attack. After registering the case, the police arrested Salman Qureshi from the hospital on Thursday.

Police sources confirmed that Salman does not have any prior criminal record. Initially, an EPR (Emergency Police Record) was filed, but after further investigation and the victim's statement, a formal case was registered.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
