A shocking and brutal incident was reported from central Mumbai, where a 23-year-old daily wage labourer was allegedly killed by his co-worker using a hammer after a dispute turned violent. The tragic episode took place in the early hours of March 30 inside a storage room at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital, Parel. The victim has been identified as Rajivkumar, also known as Pahadikumar Yadav. According to initial reports, the assault was extremely severe, leaving the victim with fatal injuries. Authorities confirmed that the accused, a fellow worker, has been taken into custody following the incident, which has raised serious concerns about worker safety.

The deceased, Rajivkumar alias Pahadikumar Yadav, was living and working alongside the accused and another colleague in Mumbai. Police from Kalachowki station identified the accused as Ramjikumar Prabhu Raut and have formally charged him with murder. Investigators revealed that all three individuals were originally from Bihar and had come to the city in search of employment. They were employed as daily wage labourers and were staying together in a temporary shelter set up within the hospital’s storage premises, highlighting their difficult living and working conditions in the city.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the conflict began over scrap material found at their workplace. Police stated that Yadav had allegedly concealed some discarded wire, which led to suspicion and tension between him and Raut. The disagreement soon intensified into a heated argument late at night. The confrontation reportedly occurred between 12:15 am and 12:30 am on March 30, when emotions escalated and the situation spiralled out of control, eventually leading to a violent and fatal outcome inside the confined space where they were residing.

During the altercation, Raut allegedly lost control and attacked Yadav with a hammer in a sudden outburst of anger. The assault caused critical injuries, and Yadav collapsed at the scene, succumbing to the attack instantly. Following the incident, authorities were alerted about the presence of a blood-covered body in the storage room. The Kalachowki police quickly arrived at the location, secured the area, and initiated an investigation. The victim’s body was later sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather further forensic evidence.

Based on the complaint filed by Rohitkumar Bablu Singh, who was present at the time of the incident, the police registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Officials confirmed that the accused, Ramjikumar Raut, was arrested after preliminary findings indicated that the murder stemmed from a dispute over scrap items. Police authorities stated that further investigation is currently underway to examine all aspects of the case, including the sequence of events and any additional factors that may have contributed to the violent confrontation.
