In the case of the brutal stabbing of NM College lecturer Alok Kumar Singh aboard a Mumbai local train, the accused Omkar Shinde has made a shocking disclosure during police interrogation, claiming that the crime was driven by rage and a feeling of humiliation in front of women.

The incident occurred on Saturday in a local train heading towards Borivali. According to the investigation, two women were standing near the footboard, with lecturer Alok Kumar Singh and his fellow professor standing just behind them. The accused Omkar Shinde was standing behind the professors.

During questioning, Shinde told the police that when he tried to move forward, Singh allegedly pushed him back and remarked, “Can’t you see? Women are standing ahead.” Shinde claimed that when the women turned around and looked at him, he felt humiliated, which triggered an intense outburst of anger.

Police sources stated that Shinde is known to have a short temper. His father also informed the police that his son has difficulty controlling his anger.

Shinde further revealed that in a fit of rage, he remembered having a pair of tweezers in his bag, which he uses for making imitation jewellery. He claimed that his intention was only to stab the lecturer lightly and flee, to “teach him a lesson”. However, the blow turned out to be fatal, leading to Singh’s death.

The accused also told investigators that he was unaware of Singh’s death until he was arrested.

The police are currently verifying the accused’s claims and reconstructing the sequence of events. Preliminary findings suggest that the murder was committed in a fit of rage, though investigators are also examining whether there was any prior provocation or underlying tension before the attack.
