A disturbing occurrence that has raised concerns took place in Mumbai, which is frequently referred to as the city of dreams and is where people from all walks of life come to pursue their goals.  Recently, a Reddit user described a troubling incident on a local train where a small debate turned into an instance of racial harassment. The article claims that the altercation started as a friendly conversation but swiftly descended into violence when the other man started disparaging people from Uttar Pradesh.  Even worse, a number of other commuters took the man's side and were more antagonistic.

The Reddit member, who was raised in Mumbai, expressed his shock and hurt over the incident.  The racial epithets persisted even after he made an effort to defuse the situation and step back.  He went on to say that he had never experienced such intolerance in a city he had always called home.

The person felt disheartened by the following incident of racism on a Mumbai train. He said I was born and brought up in Mumbai. The train was a little packed, and I was standing next to a man who appeared to be about 35 years old. I asked him politely if he could shift a little, and I was surprised at how haughtily he answered. When I confronted him about his tone, the confrontation turned heated.  His racial comments regarding UP (Uttar Pradesh) residents were what infuriated me. Some of the others around him joined in on his side, which made it worse.

He further added, even one of them started acting abusively.  This isn't going anywhere, I told myself at that moment, and I stopped talking. However, they persisted in their racist remarks among themselves even after I stopped talking.
