The Dharavi Police have arrested a 58-year-old man for allegedly murdering his wife after suspecting that she had performed “black magic” on him, officials said.
According to the police, the accused, identified as Amrit Solanki, frequently quarrelled with his 52-year-old wife Surajben Solanki and often accused her of practising black magic against him.
The incident came to light on Friday afternoon when the couple’s son, Shivram Solanki (33), who lives in Mulund, arrived at his parents’ residence in Dharavi. Finding the door locked from inside, he called his father on the phone.
According to the complaint, Amrit Solanki answered the call and asked his son to speak to him through a video call on WhatsApp. During the video call, the accused allegedly told his son that he had strangled his wife and attacked her with a bottle. He then showed the camera towards Surajben’s body lying on the floor, with blood visible on her face.
Shivram Solanki subsequently approached the Dharavi police and lodged a complaint, stating that his father often fought with his mother over trivial issues and suspected her of practising witchcraft.
After receiving the information, police rushed to the spot, broke open the door and shifted Surajben to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Police have registered a case of murder and arrested the accused Amrit Solanki. Further investigation is underway.
