Mumbai police have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly blackmailing a 24-year-old woman by threatening to leak her obscene videos. The accused, identified as Rohit Bisoi, originally hails from Odisha. When the woman refused to pay him, he circulated the videos, leading to his arrest by the Oshiwara police. A court has remanded him to police custody, and he faces charges under various sections related to extortion, molestation, and defamation.

The complainant, also a native of Odisha, was living in Mumbai for employment. She had moved to the city four months ago due to financial difficulties and had secured a job as a domestic worker through a private placement agency. The accused, Rohit, who was already residing in Mumbai, had helped her find this job.

On January 27, 2025, the woman had a day off, and Rohit invited her for an outing. He took her to Dadar, where they later checked into a lodge. During their stay, they became physically intimate, and Rohit secretly recorded explicit videos on his mobile phone.

On February 9, Rohit contacted the woman, demanding ₹10,000. When she refused, citing financial constraints, he started blackmailing her, threatening to leak their intimate videos online. Despite repeated threats, the woman ignored his demands.

In a shocking move, Rohit sent the explicit videos to the woman's employer, leading to an inquiry by her workplace. Distressed, the woman confided in her employer, who advised her to file a complaint. Following this, she approached the Oshiwara Police, who took the matter seriously and launched an investigation.

A case was registered against Rohit under sections related to extortion, criminal intimidation, and defamation. Upon learning about the FIR, Rohit attempted to flee to Odisha. However, a special team of Oshiwara Police tracked him down and arrested him from Jogeshwari railway station before he could leave Mumbai.

During interrogation, Rohit confessed to the crime. The police have seized his mobile phone, which has been sent for forensic analysis. Further investigation is underway.
