A 21-year-old youth, Aftab Wajir Sheikh, was brutally attacked with a sickle by his own friend after he refused to join him for drinking at a bar. The shocking incident took place in the Antop Hill area. Aftab sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Sion Hospital for treatment. Following the attack, Antop Hill Police arrested the accused, Shahid Riaz Ansari, who has a criminal record. The court has remanded him to police custody.

The incident occurred around 9 PM on Tuesday near a paan shop in front of A.A. Enterprises, close to Bhagat Sheikh Mistri Dargah in Antop Hill. Aftab, a college student, resides in Jai Maharashtra Nagar, while the accused, Shahid, lives in Vikrant Society in the same locality.

On Tuesday night, Shahid invited Aftab to the ‘Omi Punjab’ bar for drinking. However, Aftab refused to join him, which enraged Shahid. In a fit of anger, Shahid attempted to attack Aftab on the head with a sickle. Aftab tried to defend himself with his hands, resulting in severe injuries to his hands and legs. He was left seriously wounded in the attack.

After the attack, Shahid fled the scene. Locals immediately rushed the injured Aftab to Sion Hospital, where he was given medical treatment and later discharged. Upon receiving the information, Antop Hill Police reached the spot and registered an attempt-to-murder case against Shahid Ansari based on Aftab’s complaint.

Within hours, the police tracked down and arrested Shahid. Investigations revealed that Shahid is a history-sheeter with three cases registered under the NDPS Act at Agripada Police Station. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
