In a shocking incident stemming from a domestic dispute over mobile phone usage and other family issues, a 48-year-old woman was allegedly attacked with a sickle by her husband in Andheri on Sunday night. The MIDC Police have arrested the accused and registered a case of attempt to murder and other relevant charges.

The accused has been identified as Santosh Fakira Raut (44), while the injured woman is Nita Vishwanath Bhopale (48). The court has remanded the accused to police custody. Meanwhile, Nita is undergoing treatment at a trauma care hospital in Jogeshwari and is reported to be in stable condition, police said.

The incident took place around 9:30 pm on Sunday at a residential building in the MIDC area of Andheri. Nita lived on the 13th floor of the building along with her husband Santosh and their two children. She is employed, while Santosh is reportedly unemployed. According to police, the couple had been having frequent quarrels over trivial domestic issues for the past few days, during which the accused allegedly abused and assaulted her.

On Sunday night, while Nita was using her mobile phone at home, an argument broke out again between the couple over the phone and other family matters. The verbal altercation soon escalated, and in a fit of rage, Santosh allegedly attacked Nita and their seven-year-old son with a sickle.

Nita sustained serious injuries to both her hands, a finger, and her head, while her son suffered injuries to his left hand. Hearing their screams, local residents rushed to the flat and alerted the police.

Upon receiving information, officers from the MIDC Police Station reached the spot and shifted the injured woman to a trauma care hospital in Jogeshwari, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

Police recorded Nita’s statement at the hospital, which revealed details of the incident. Based on her complaint, a case was registered against Santosh under sections related to attempt to murder and other offences. The accused, who had fled after the attack, was arrested on Monday. Further investigation is underway.
