A man aged around 50-55 years old was found dead on Sion-Bandra Link Road in Mumbai's Dharavi, said police on Saturday, March 28. Dharavi Police said initially the victim was believed to have died due to an accident, but after the post-mortem and crime scene evidence confirmed murder. 

Police found a blood-stained concrete piece at the scene of the crime. Police said they have launched a probe into the suspect's murder and will investigate all angles. The victim's identity is still unknown, and suspects are being actively pursued. 

Police are reviewing nearby CCTV footage from nearby areas for further investigation. Officials said teams are actively working to trace the accused and determine the motive behind the killing.  

According to police sources, Police Sub-Inspector Sanjay Manik Koli, who resides at the Naigaon Police Colony in Dadar and has been posted at Dharavi Police Station for the past four years, was on night duty on Sunday, March 22. On Monday, March 23, at around 7:45 am, Police Inspector Sangeeta Mane informed him via phone about a man found unconscious on the footpath near an electric pole along the Sion-Bandra Link Road, between Kalanagar Junction and Dharavi T-Junction.

Acting on the information, PSI Koli and his team rushed to the spot, where they found the unidentified man lying in a pool of blood. The victim was immediately shifted to Sion Hospital for treatment. As he was unconscious, the police were unable to record his statement. He succumbed to his injuries at around 10:00 am during treatment.

The deceased had sustained severe injuries to his head, forehead, and ear. Both his eyes were swollen and had turned black and blue. Initially, the Dharavi Police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and sent the body for post-mortem.

During the investigation, police recovered a blood-stained paver block from the spot. The post-mortem report later confirmed that the victim died due to a fatal assault on the head with a paver block. Following this, a murder case has been registered against uan nknown accused.

Police officials stated that efforts are underway to identify the deceased, and further investigation will gain momentum once his identity is established.
