A 29-year-old man was caught at Chinchpokli railway station on the Central Railway line for allegedly posing as a railway employee and producing a fake identity card during a ticket checking drive. The accused was later handed over to the Dadar Railway Police.
According to railway officials, Senior Ticket Inspector Pramod Ramanand Yadav was on duty at Chinchpokli railway station from 8 am to 4 pm on Thursday. Chief Ticket Examiner Nilesh Pednekar was also part of the ticket checking squad.
At around 3.45 pm, while both officials were checking tickets of passengers at the station, they asked a young man to produce his ticket or travel pass. During questioning, the man claimed to be a railway employee and showed an identity card.
The ID card carried the Ashoka emblem, a red railway logo, and the words “Employee Training ID Card”. However, the officials found the card’s design suspicious. Suspecting foul play, the ticket inspector clicked a photograph of the card and sent it to senior officials via WhatsApp for verification.
Upon verification, it was confirmed that the railway identity card shown by the man was completely fake. With the help of on-duty police personnel present at the station, the accused was taken into custody and brought to Dadar Railway Police Station.
During interrogation, the accused identified himself as Dinesh Suresh RK (29). He is currently residing in Gokhale Nagar in Kanjurmarg and is originally from Sillod in Aurangabad district.
Police said the accused was travelling without a valid ticket and attempted to mislead railway authorities by showing a fake railway identity card.
The Dadar Railway Police have registered a case against the accused for cheating and possession of forged documents. Further investigation is underway to determine where the fake ID card was made and whether the accused had used it earlier to travel on the railway network.
