Mumbai, August 26: A man was arrested by the Bandra police for duping relatives of jail inmates after posing as BJP MLA Ashish Shelar's personal assistant (PA). According to the ANI report, the accused, Amin Irfan Bendrekar, allegedly contacted lawyers and collected information about their clients and extorted money by promising aid from the Maharashtra government.
According to the Bandra police, further investigation in the matter is under way.

Accused Amin Irfan Bendrekar was arrested for duping relatives of jail inmates, posing as BJP MLA Ashish Shelar's PA. The accused allegedly contacted lawyers obtained information about their clients and extorted money by promising aid from the state government. Further investigation is underway, Bandra Police told news agency ANI.
According to the information, the accused mimicked the voice of the BJP leader to get information on ongoing cases from lawyers. Not only this, money has also been extorted based on this information. A case has been registered on the complaint of Shelar's personal assistant Navnath Satpute.
Advocate Vijendra Rai, Adv. Yasmin Wankhede, Adv. Iram Syed, Adv. Rais Khan and Adv. Afrin had been receiving unknown calls since July. The lawyers said that the caller pretended to be Shelar's PA by name Sharma. He gathered information about the accused in jails, pending cases against them, and their relatives from the lawyers.
Thereafter, he used to call the relatives of the accused and told them that he was speaking from Shelar's office. Later, he extorted Rs 8,000 from his relatives for the treatment of a prisoner's relative by falsely saying that he was injured.
