A shocking incident has come to light in Mumbai’s Sakinaka area where a married woman was allegedly defamed after an obscene video of her kissing an unknown man inside a lift was circulated on social media. Police investigations have revealed that the video was allegedly leaked by the 25-year-old son of the chairman of the housing society where the woman resides. Based on the complaint, Sakinaka police have registered a case against the accused and initiated an investigation. The viral video has reportedly caused severe damage to the woman’s reputation in society.

According to the police, the 36-year-old complainant lives in the Sakinaka area with her husband and two daughters. Her husband works as a carpenter in Goregaon. In January 2026, the woman was using the lift in her residential building when an unknown man entered. The two reportedly exchanged glances and, in a moment of emotion, kissed each other inside the lift before the man left the premises.

The matter came to light on March 9 when the woman visited the vegetable market around 6 pm to buy groceries. At the market, she overheard some people saying that a particular video was going viral. When she turned back, she noticed three to four women discussing it. A boy known to her was also present there, so she asked him about the video. He informed her that a video showing her kissing an unknown man was being widely circulated on social media. On seeing the video, the woman was reportedly shocked.

The backup of CCTV cameras installed in the entire building is kept with the society chairman. Since he is not technically proficient, the responsibility of checking and managing the CCTV footage was handled by his son Ravi. During the investigation, it was revealed that Ravi allegedly accessed the CCTV footage, extracted the clip showing the woman kissing the unknown man in the lift, and circulated it on social media, leading to her defamation.

After learning about the incident, the woman lodged a complaint with the Sakinaka police against Ravi. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. Further investigation is underway, and the police are expected to soon question the accused and record his statement.
