Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday announced financial compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased who died after a slab of an under-construction Mumbai Metro line 4 pillar fell on moving vehicles in the Mulund West area of Mumbai, resulting in the death of one person and injuring three others.

CM Devendra Fadnavis has also expressed grief and ordered an inquiry into the incidentthat took place on LBS Marg near Mulund-Bhandup area near Johnson and Johnson Garden/factory.

"In the Mulund area of Mumbai, a slab from the metro construction collapsed, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to several others. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed grief over this incident and has ordered an inquiry into the matter," CM wrote on X in Marathi.

"The state government will provide financial assistance of 5 lakh rupees to the deceased's heirs, and the cost of treatment for the injured will be borne by the state government. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured," he wrote further.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:20 pm on LBS Road, near the Johnson & Johnson factory, when a concrete parapet wall weighing several tonnes fell from the elevated Metro Line 4 onto a moving auto-rickshaw and a private car. The falling concrete completely crushed the auto-rickshaw (MH-04-MP-1434) and caused significant damage to a private Skoda car (WB-04-AS-1652).

The victims were rushed to Upasani Multispeciality Hospital, where one man, identified as Ramdhan Yadav, was pronounced dead on arrival. Hospital officials have identified injured, including Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav (45), whose said to be in a critical condition and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Others, Mahendra Pratap Yadav (52) and Deepa Ruhiya (40) are in stable condition and undergoing treatment at the hospital.
