A fatal parapet collapse in Mulund, Mumbai, led to swift action from Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who on Saturday ordered the suspension of executive engineer Satyajit Salve. The accident claimed the life of Ramdhan Yadav and left three others injured. Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav, 45, is battling for his life and remains in critical condition, while Mahendra Pratap Yadav, 52, and Deepa Ruhiya, 40, are said to be stable. In response to the incident, authorities have immediately halted construction activities at the affected stretch as a precautionary step.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has also taken stringent action by imposing heavy penalties on those associated with the project. A fine of ₹5 crore has been levied on the contractor, while general consultants have been directed to pay ₹1 crore. Officials stated that these measures were necessary to ensure accountability and reinforce safety standards at infrastructure sites across the region, especially in the wake of the tragic incident that raised serious concerns over construction practices.
Meanwhile, the police investigation has resulted in five individuals being taken into custody. Four of them are executives from Milan Road Buildtech, a subcontractor engaged by a consortium that included Italy-based Astaldi and Reliance Infrastructure Limited. The detained officials are supervisor Prashant Bhoir, project manager Kuldeep Sapkal, deputy project manager Saurab Singh, and project director Harish Chauhan. Avdhoot Inamdar, a project manager at Hill International Inc., has also been taken into custody as the probe continues.
