There is good news for Mumbaikars who eagerly await the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) housing lottery every year. After the model code of conduct for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections ends, the Mumbai Board of MHADA has begun preparations to conduct a lottery for around 3,000 houses.
According to sources, the lottery is likely to be announced in March this year. BDD Chawl, Motilal Nagar Redevelopment Project, GTB Punjabi Colony, Patrachal, Abhyudaya Nagar, Poonam Nagar, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Nagar in Andheri are in the planning stage and it is being said that the availability of houses can be seen in this lottery. During the same period, the MHADA Konkan Board is also expected to hold a lottery for around 4,000 houses.
Meanwhile, over the last 76 years, MHADA has provided nearly nine lakh affordable homes to people across Maharashtra. Several major projects are currently in the planning stage, including the BDD Chawl redevelopment, Motilal Nagar redevelopment project, Punjabi Colony at GTB Nagar, Patra Chawl, Abhyudaya Nagar, Poonam Nagar, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Nagar in Andheri.
Mumbai Board houses continue to see the highest demand, while Konkan Board homes also receive a strong response. However, in some Konkan Board projects, infrastructure facilities are yet to be fully developed, leading to dissatisfaction among allottees after the lottery.
The authority has now prioritised the development of infrastructure such as roads, water supply, and electricity. House prices have also been reduced, raising hopes that Konkan Board homes may receive a better response in the upcoming lottery.
