The Azad Maidan police have arrested six individuals, including an office bearer of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s (MNS) labor union, for allegedly kidnapping the father of a businessman and demanding a ransom of Rs10 lakh. The accused had also assaulted and abused the company’s supervisor.

Vijay More runs a labor supply company that provides workers on a contractual basis at various locations. His office is situated near Bank of India in Fort, Mumbai. On Monday, 17 employees of the company suddenly stopped working over minor issues. Among them, two were reportedly affiliated with a political workers' union.

Shortly after the work stoppage, a few union members barged into More’s office. They allegedly threatened and assaulted Sujit Saroj (36), the company’s supervisor, before resorting to further criminal actions.

The accused then forcibly took Vijay More’s father, Pandurang More, and claimed they were taking him to the MNS labor union office in Dadar. Later, they called Vijay More and demanded Rs10 lakh for his father’s release.

Upon receiving the threat, More immediately approached Azad Maidan police station and lodged a complaint. The police swiftly registered a case and launched an investigation.

Based on technical surveillance and confidential sources, a police team identified and arrested six accused—Sujoy Thombre (30), Sunil Rane (56), Arun Borle (52), Arun Shirke (29), Rohit Jadhav (24), and Manohar Chavan (39). Among them, Sujoy Thombre, the secretary of the MNS labor union, already had three criminal cases registered against him at Sakinaka and Kurla police stations.

The police have also seized a Mahindra Thar SUV used in the abduction. Further investigations are underway.
