Three men who used a car to snatch a gold chain in the Chembur area of Mumbai from a woman have been nabbed by the police. Police also seized the car they used to snatch the woman’s chain. They snatched a chain of woman while she was out for her morning walk. The incident happened around 7:20 am near Star Junction on the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road. The woman was walking on the road when the trio in a Maruti Suzuki Wagon R car suddenly approached the lady. They forcefully snatched a gold chain from her neck and fled the spot in their car. The victim reached out to the Tilak Nagar Police and filed a case, and then the police started the investigation.

“Four special police teams were promptly established to look into the matter under the direction of senior Mumbai Police officers, including Shashikant Pawar, Senior Police Inspector at Tilaknagar Police Station,” said an official. The official also said that the police traced the vehicle used in this chain snatching crime, and then they identified the three accused involved in the crime. The official stated that the police were able to track down the suspects in Andheri and apprehend them despite their suspected hiding and frequent location changes to evade detection. According to the police, Mehsad Khan, also known as Sonu, 21, Sameer Shaikh, 20, and Nasib Mukhtar Ahmad, 19, were the suspects who were taken into custody.

The stolen gold chain, which was valued at Rs 40,000. "The total recovery made by the police in the case is worth around Rs 3.40 lakh," said an officer.

Further inquiry found that the same gang was reportedly involved in several chain-snatching instances in the Wadala TT region. Two more cases have been solved since their arrest. Police Sub-Inspector Vijay Singh Deshmukh of Tilaknagar Police is leading the probe into the matter, the official said.
