In a shocking incident, a violent clash broke out between two groups in the early hours of Sunday on the Western Express Highway and near the Worli Sea Link area in Mumbai. Three youths were seriously injured after a group of six to seven men allegedly attacked them with wooden bamboo sticks following an argument over a soft drink can thrown at a moving car. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.
According to the police, the complainant Maj Faisal Patel (23), a resident of Jogeshwari, was travelling with around 10 to 11 friends in two cars towards Mohammed Ali Road at around 2 am on Sunday. While passing through the Western Express Highway near Bandra, a person travelling in a black Skoda Slavia car allegedly threw a cold drink can at the car of Patel’s friend.
When Patel and his friends questioned the man about why the can was thrown, the occupants of the Skoda car allegedly started abusing them and blocked their vehicle on the road. Although both groups initially moved ahead after the brief altercation, the accused reportedly continued to chase them.
During the chase, the accused called for backup in a white Hyundai Verna car. At J.K. Kapur Chowk in Worli, the two vehicles allegedly surrounded the complainant’s car. The accused then got out of their vehicles armed with wooden bamboo sticks and brutally attacked Patel and his friends.
During the assault, Aamir Shaikh and Abdul Karim suffered serious head injuries after being struck with bamboo sticks and collapsed in pools of blood. Another youth, Moin Syed, was chased and severely beaten by the attackers, leaving him with serious facial injuries. The complaint also stated that the accused threatened friends who attempted to intervene as well as taxi drivers present at the spot.
Following the incident, the injured were rushed to Nair Hospital for treatment.
In this connection, the Bandra Police have registered a case against six to seven unidentified youths under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including Sections 115(2), 118(1) (causing hurt with a dangerous weapon), 191(2) (rioting), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation), along with other provisions.
The investigation is being carried out by Police Inspector Vaibhav Deshpande, and the case has been transferred to the Kherwadi Police Station for further probe.
