A police officer from the Bureau of Immigration, Mumbai Police, apprehended a passenger at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for falsifying his date of birth on his passport.

According to sources, Police Constable Nilesh Bhaidekar, who is posted at the Bureau of Immigration, stated in his report to Sahar Police that he was on duty on March 8, conducting routine checks on passengers' passports and other travel documents.

During this verification process, a passenger named Asgar Ali arrived at Nilesh’s counter. While examining his passport and documents, Nilesh noticed discrepancies in the date of birth mentioned.

Immediately, he informed Wing Incharge Anshuman Baksharay and presented the passenger before him. Subsequently, Anshuman and Duty Officer Shashikant Singh interrogated Asgar Ali. During questioning, Asgar revealed that he had obtained his passport from Patna, Bihar. He had originally received his passport in 2009, which listed his birth date as January 10, 1975. With this passport, he had worked in Saudi Arabia between 2012 and 2016.

Asgar further confessed that securing employment in Gulf countries becomes difficult for individuals above 50 years of age. To bypass this restriction, he procured a second passport, altering his date of birth to April 3, 1994. Using this new passport, he was attempting to travel to the UAE on March 9 when the Bureau of Immigration caught him.

Based on a complaint filed by the Bureau of Immigration, Sahar Police has registered an FIR against Asgar Ali under Sections 318(4), 336(2), 336(3), and 340(2) of the BNS, along with Section 12 of the Indian Passport Act. The investigation is now underway.
