The Mumbai Police have filed a First Information Report against Sonia Gupta, her husband Sonu Gupta, and six others for allegedly coercing a 29-year-old woman into being filmed and then circulating the recordings online, reported The Free Press Journal. The survivor approached the Samta Nagar Police, detailing an ordeal that unfolded over several days in August 2025. As per her complaint, the accused allegedly threatened and pressured her into recording explicit videos. These clips were later uploaded to multiple adult websites without her permission, causing severe emotional trauma. Police officials stated that the case highlights growing concerns over digital exploitation and abuse.
The disturbing case surfaced shortly after the Thane Police cracked down on a separate prostitution and human trafficking network in Bhiwandi. In a coordinated operation, the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell and the Crime Branch arrested a woman agent accused of luring and forcing women into sex work for monetary benefits. The crackdown led to the rescue of two women from exploitative conditions. Authorities also booked three individuals under provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. The main accused in this case has been identified as Mushrat Ansar Mirza, aged 40, a resident of Santacruz East in Mumbai.
Police officials revealed that the Bhiwandi raid was conducted following precise intelligence received on January 20. The tip-off indicated that a prostitution racket was being run from Hotel Sandeep Veges at Gove Naka in Bhiwandi taluka. Acting promptly, teams from the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell and the Crime Branch reached the location and carried out a search operation. During the raid, officers found women allegedly being compelled to engage in sex work. Two victims were immediately rescued and relocated to a secure shelter, while the suspected agent was arrested on the spot.
In the Mumbai case, investigators have registered offences under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. The charges include serious sexual offences, voyeurism, criminal conspiracy, and electronic transmission of obscene content. Police said the stringent sections reflect the seriousness of the crime and the harm caused to the survivor. All eight accused are currently on the run, prompting a large-scale search operation. Cyber experts are tracking digital evidence, while authorities are coordinating with online platforms to remove the objectionable material and prevent further exploitation.
