In a sustained and large-scale crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Mumbai Police have seized drugs worth ₹6,738 crore over the last four years, registering 4,560 cases and arresting 5,589 accused in connection with drug-related offences.

According to official figures, between 2022 and 2026, a total of 10,866 kilograms of various narcotic substances were recovered from different parts of the city. The seized contraband includes MD (Mephedrone), cocaine, ganja, heroin, charas and codeine-based cough syrup.

Police officials said mephedrone — often referred to by code names such as “Aunty” in the illegal drug market — was intercepted on multiple occasions during the operation. Investigations revealed that traffickers frequently used coded language to avoid detection, but sustained technical surveillance and intelligence gathering enabled the police to decode these communications and trace the supply chains.

Authorities stated that the continuous enforcement action has significantly weakened drug syndicates operating in Mumbai, with several major networks being dismantled.

The crackdown was not limited to large-scale suppliers and distributors. Police also initiated strict action against consumers as part of a broader strategy to curb drug abuse and break the demand-supply chain in the city.

Senior officials described the four-year drive as one of the most extensive anti-narcotics operations undertaken in recent years, aimed at making Mumbai drug-free and tightening the grip on organised drug crime.
