In a major achievement, the Mumbai Police have successfully traced and returned 1,541 stolen and lost mobile phones worth ₹3.37 crore to their rightful owners.
The operation was carried out by a team under Zone 3 of the Mumbai Police Commissionerate over the past few months. The recovered property was handed over to the original owners during a programme organised on April 4.
According to officials, in the last three months alone, various police stations under Zone 3, with the help of the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) portal, Cyber Cell, and Detection Branch, recovered a total of 662 mobile phones. The estimated value of these devices is ₹1,35,71,000. Additionally, other valuables worth ₹30,54,000 were also recovered. On Saturday, property worth ₹1,66,25,000 in total was returned to citizens.
Among the police stations, Nagpada Police Station recovered 139 mobile phones, Worli Police Station 108, Tardeo Police Station 105, N.M. Joshi Marg Police Station 104, Agripada Police Station 103, and Byculla Police Station 103 phones.
Under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3), Krishnakant Uppadhyay, three major recovery drives have been conducted so far. Through these initiatives, the police have collectively recovered 1,541 mobile phones and other valuables worth ₹3,37,44,500.
Police officers and personnel who performed exceptionally well by recovering a higher number of mobile phones were honoured with certificates of appreciation during the event. The programme was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3), Assistant Commissioners of Police, and Senior Police Inspectors.
Citizens expressed satisfaction over the police efforts, and many were seen delighted after receiving their lost mobile phones.
