A truck driver lost his life while another person suffered injuries after a truck crashed into another vehicle from behind and overturned on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway near Khopoli in Raigad district on Sunday evening. The accident caused a temporary disruption on the busy highway and prompted an immediate response from rescue teams. According to officials, the crash involved two heavy vehicles travelling in the same direction. The impact of the collision was severe, leading to significant damage to the trucks. Emergency responders rushed to the location soon after the incident was reported, while authorities worked quickly to manage the situation and ensure the safety of other motorists on the expressway.

The accident took place inside the new tunnel near Adoshi when a truck travelling from Pune towards Mumbai suddenly went out of control. The vehicle first collided with another truck moving ahead of it and then crashed into the roadside safety barrier. Due to the strong impact, the truck overturned on the expressway within the tunnel area. The driver became trapped inside the vehicle’s cabin as the truck toppled over. The force of the crash caused extensive damage to the front portion of the vehicle, leaving the driver stuck inside the wreckage and making the situation critical for rescue teams arriving at the site.

Police later identified the deceased driver as Mohammad Ibrahim Javed, aged 32, who was originally from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. He was driving truck number MH 43 Y 6936 and was heading towards Mumbai at the time of the accident. Investigators said that Javed lost control of the truck inside the tunnel and rammed into another truck bearing registration number MH 46 F 5913 from the rear. The collision pushed the front vehicle forward, and the truck driven by Javed then struck the protective safety railing before overturning. The violent crash left the driver trapped in the cabin and resulted in his death at the scene.

Another driver involved in the accident, identified as Gayadin Kushwaha, sustained injuries during the incident. Rescue teams managed to pull him out safely from the accident site. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he received medical treatment for his injuries. Authorities stated that the injured man was conscious when he was rescued and was quickly transported for medical care. Meanwhile, officials also worked to recover the body of the deceased driver, who had remained trapped inside the heavily damaged truck cabin following the overturning of the vehicle on the expressway.

Following the accident, teams from the Borghat Highway Police, IRB authorities, and volunteers from the Help Foundation reached the location to carry out rescue operations. Officials coordinated efforts to clear the wreckage and assist the injured. According to a Borghat Highway Police officer, the team quickly responded after receiving information about the crash. The injured individual was rescued and transported to the hospital, while the trapped driver was carefully pulled out of the truck cabin. Once rescue efforts were completed, both damaged trucks were removed from the road to restore normal traffic movement on the expressway.

Traffic on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway was temporarily affected due to the accident and the rescue operations inside the tunnel area. Vehicles slowed down as authorities worked to manage the situation and remove the wreckage. However, officials acted swiftly to clear the damaged trucks from the roadway and ensure that traffic flow resumed without further delays. After the vehicles were moved aside and the area was secured, traffic movement gradually returned to normal. Authorities have also begun investigating the circumstances that led to the crash to determine the exact cause of the accident.
