The local train is the lifeline of Mumbai as lakhs of Mumbaikars travel via trains regularly. There is a huge rush during peak hours, and passengers face several issues, like huge crowds on bridges connecting the entry and exit points. The Central Railway is trying to enhance passengers’ experience across Mumbai. It has introduced several new amenities across its network to enhance travel safety, accessibility, and convenience for commuters.

The Central Railway will provide escalators, lifts, improved passenger information systems, upgraded ticketing facilities, and provisions for passengers with disabilities. The Karjat station on platform 1, close to the Kalyan-end foot overbridge, now has two new escalators. At Shelu station, on platform 1 at the Karjat-end foot overbridge, a new lift has also been put into service. Senior citizens, passengers with disabilities, pregnant women, and passengers with medical issues can have simpler access to the stations now.

To enhance real-time travel information, the Sandhurst Road station now has four new GPS clocks installed. At the Ghansoli, Rabale, and Airoli stations, new, more readable displays have taken the place of outdated suburban train indications.

New all-in-one video display signs have been put at the Ulhasnagar, Vangani, and Neral stations to help passengers see train timetables more clearly. Additionally, new speakers have been added to the Ulhasnagar station's public announcement system to enhance communication and guarantee timely information.

In order to increase ticketing efficiency, 86 stations in the Mumbai division now have 575 new automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs). Additionally, the railway has started the process of acquiring 226 more ATVMs. By cutting down on lines at ticket counters, these devices should facilitate travel for passengers.
