In response, both private and government schools and colleges have declared a holiday. Mumbai local train services have also been diverted and suspended on major lines due to waterlogging on the tracks and stations reported on Monday.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rain for Tuesday, July 9. Mumbaikars have been advised to avoid stepping out. The weather body issued a red alert for the city for Monday evening, as Mumbai recorded more than 268 mm of rain at the main weather station in Santa Cruz between 8:30 pm on Sunday (July 7) and 8:30 am on Monday, with at least 300 mm recorded between 1 am and 7 am (six hours) at some weather stations.

The IMD has also issued a red alert for Satara and Pune districts for July 9, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in these areas.

Flight services at Mumbai airport were severely impacted due to low visibility after the heavy rains, leading to runway operations being shut down for over an hour and approximately 50 flights being cancelled.
