A 55-year-old priest was killed in a devastating road accident involving a BEST bus on the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road in Kurla, Mumbai, on Thursday afternoon. The victim, Trivikram Shripad Acharya, lived in Nehru Nagar, Kurla West. Police said the incident took place around 12:30 pm when an electric bus allegedly crashed into his scooter. The impact caused Acharya to fall onto the road, and he was then run over by the rear wheels of the bus. He suffered fatal injuries and died instantly at the scene, leaving locals shocked by the tragic turn of events.

Following the accident, the Kurla Police detained the bus driver, 42-year-old Kamlesh Kumar Baranlal, and registered a case of causing death due to negligence. According to officials, there was no initial indication that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, although he was subjected to a routine medical examination. Authorities have begun formal legal proceedings and are conducting a detailed investigation to reconstruct how the collision occurred. Statements from witnesses and technical findings will play a key role in determining responsibility and understanding the circumstances that led to the fatal mishap.

In another incident earlier that day, a potentially serious accident was narrowly avoided in Prabhadevi when a BEST bus lost control and climbed onto a road divider. The incident occurred at around 7:49 am near the Bombay Dyeing bus stop. The bus, running on route 167 from P.K. Kurne Chowk to Prabhadevi railway station, swerved after a car abruptly made a U-turn in front of it. While attempting to prevent a collision, the driver applied sudden brakes, causing the bus to veer off course and mount the divider. Although passengers were shaken, no injuries were reported.
