An 80-year-old woman was crushed to death by a reversing crane near Prime Mall in Mumbai's Vile Parle area on Thursday, March 27. The driver fled the scene, fearing a mob lynching, and was later arrested by police from Goregaon. The accident took place when a constable, Narendra Namdev Teli of the Juhu Police station, was on duty when he received a call regarding the accident.

Juhu Police, using CCTV footage and vehicle details, identified the driver as Arvind Yadav (20). A case has been registered under BNS Sections 106(1), 125, 281 and the Motor Vehicles Act 134(A), 134(B). Investigations are ongoing.

According to a local, the accused driver was driving recklessly when he struck the woman while taking a reverse.  Upon realising the accident, he abandoned the vehicle and escaped, reported the Hindustan Times. The woman was rushed to the Cooper Hospital, where the doctor declared her dead on arrival.

The victim was identified as Beena Anil Mathure, a resident of an apartment near Shree Sai Garden in Vile Parle West. The police have informed her family about the accident.
