A case of theft involving Rs 35,000 has come to light at a reputed hotel in Mumbai’s Juhu area, where well-known Haryana-based singer Chetna Shukla was staying. The 48-year-old singer has lodged an FIR against an unknown person at Juhu Police Station.
According to the police, Chetna Shukla had arrived in Mumbai from Gurugram for a leisure trip. The alleged theft took place when she had stepped out of the hotel for sightseeing.
As per the complaint, Shukla came to Mumbai on January 21 along with her two friends—Deepika Khurana and makeup artist Sudarshanjeet Sabharwal. The trio had booked Room No. 102 at the Sea Princess Hotel on Juhu Tara Road.
On January 22, they went shopping at Lokhandwala Complex in the afternoon and later proceeded for darshan at the Siddhivinayak Temple in the evening. When they returned to the hotel around 2 am on January 23, Shukla checked her belongings and found that Rs 35,000 in cash was missing from her purse kept inside a black suitcase.
Despite a thorough search of the room, the cash could not be traced. Shukla immediately informed the hotel management. While the hotel manager initially assured her that CCTV footage would be reviewed, no concrete information was provided later, citing questioning of housekeeping staff.
Suspecting foul play, the singer alleged that an unknown person had unlocked the room and stolen the cash without her consent. She further stated that due to a lack of cooperation from the hotel management, she was compelled to approach the police.
Juhu Police have registered a case against an unknown accused and have begun an investigation. CCTV footage from the hotel premises is being examined to identify the culprit.
