In yet another incident highlighting the growing menace of cybercrime, a businessman from Navi Mumbai's Sanpada area has fallen prey to an online fraud amounting to ₹1.25 crore. The accused, posing as the director of a fake company, managed to siphon off the huge sum through deceitful tactics. The Cyber Police of Mumbai’s East Division has registered a case against the unidentified fraudster.

According to information shared by the police, the complainant, a 44-year-old businessman residing in Sanpada, Navi Mumbai, was targeted between April 15, 2024, and April 16, 2025. The accused allegedly introduced himself as the director of a company named 'PK Pharma Tech' via WhatsApp. He even shared a new mobile number, asking the businessman to save it under the company’s directory.

Gaining the victim’s trust, the fraudster claimed that an advance payment was needed to seal a business deal and pressured the businessman into transferring the amount after acquiring bank account details under false pretenses. Convinced by the accused, the victim ended up transferring a total of ₹1.25 crore from both his personal and company accounts.

Following the complaint, the East Division Cyber Police have registered a case under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The police have launched a probe and are currently on the lookout for the unidentified accused and his possible accomplices.
