A sensational theft case has come to light from Mumbai’s Sakinaka area, where cash amounting to ₹7 lakh was allegedly stolen from the residence of well-known playback singer Srikanth Narayan, who is associated with the film industry. The singer has lodged a police complaint accusing the caretaker appointed to look after his elderly mother of committing the theft. Police have registered a case and launched a search for the accused woman caretaker.
According to the police, the complainant, Srikanth Anant Narayan (58), is a professional playback singer and resides with his family at the Nahar Amrut Shakti complex in Sakinaka. His household includes his wife, elderly mother and mother-in-law. The family’s livelihood is entirely dependent on his income from the film industry. Srikanth Narayan’s mother has been suffering from an eye-related ailment for the past few years, following which Dikshita (39) was appointed as a caretaker in April 2025. She would report for duty daily at 8 am and leave around 8 pm.
As per the complaint, the singer had saved ₹7 lakh in cash from his earnings over the past year. The amount was kept hidden behind a locker inside the bedroom cupboard. The incident is suspected to have occurred on January 12, 2026. On that morning, Narayan’s wife had opened the cupboard while the caretaker was present at home. Later, all family members left for their respective work. From afternoon till evening, only the elderly women of the house and other domestic help were present. When Srikanth Narayan returned home in the evening, the caretaker had already left after completing her duty.
The following day, the caretaker left work early, and from January 14 onwards, she stopped coming to work citing illness. On January 17, 2026, when Srikanth Narayan attempted to take out the cash kept in the cupboard for the purpose of purchasing a property, he found that the entire amount of ₹7 lakh was missing. Despite searching the house thoroughly, the cash could not be found, confirming the theft.
On January 18, the singer tried to contact the caretaker and asked her to come home, but she refused and allegedly told him to do whatever he wished, including filing a complaint. Subsequently, Srikanth Narayan approached the police station and lodged a formal complaint, alleging that the caretaker had taken advantage of the absence of family members and dishonestly stolen the cash between the morning of January 12 and the morning of January 17.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Officials said efforts are underway to trace and question the suspect caretaker, and further action will be taken soon.
It may be noted that Srikanth Narayan is a renowned stage and playback singer, widely known for his contribution to Marathi music and for his tribute performances dedicated to legendary singer Mohammed Rafi.
