A case of cheating has come to light in Mumbai where a songwriter was allegedly duped of ₹3.25 lakh on the pretext of arranging work with renowned singer Kailash Kher. Park Site Police have registered a case against a 35-year-old Chembur resident, Premal Mehta.

According to police, the complainant, Chaitanya Kanhaiya (38), a native of Uttar Pradesh currently residing in Oshiwara, works as a lyricist and music composer. He was looking for a singer for his songs when he came in contact with Mehta through a mutual acquaintance in December 2025.

Mehta allegedly arranged an online interaction between Kanhaiya and Kailash Kher, during which the singer reportedly asked him to coordinate further with his manager. This interaction strengthened Kanhaiya’s trust.

Subsequently, Mehta met Kanhaiya at R-City Mall in Ghatkopar and demanded an advance payment on the pretext of finalising recording and contractual formalities. Trusting him, Kanhaiya transferred ₹3.25 lakh from his bank account to the account of Neeta Saraikar.

After receiving the money, the accused allegedly stopped responding. When pressured, he issued a cheque dated January 5, which later bounced. Upon contacting Kher’s manager, Kanhaiya realised he had been cheated.

Following this, the victim approached the police and lodged a complaint. Further investigation in the case is underway.
