A 51-year-old woman teacher from a reputed school in Mumbai has allegedly been cheated of around ₹43 lakh in an online investment fraud. Following the complaint filed by the victim, the Central Cyber Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation.

According to the police, the victim stated that she received a message on Facebook from an email claiming to be from “Newberry Securities Private Limited,” offering high returns through investments in the stock market. After initial communication, the fraudsters obtained her WhatsApp number and added her to a group where they continued to convince her to invest.

To gain her trust, the accused allegedly shared documents bearing the letterhead of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). Believing the offer to be genuine, the victim transferred a total of approximately ₹43 lakh from multiple bank accounts to the accounts provided by the fraudsters.

When she did not receive the promised profits, the victim grew suspicious and approached the cyber police, following which a complaint was registered. The police have begun an investigation to trace the accused and recover the defrauded amount.
