Maharashtra's capital Mumbai recorded its hottest February day on Tuesday since 2017, as the maximum temperature rose to 38.7 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest day of the year. The India Meteorology Department (IMD) had already issued a yellow alert for the heatwave in the city and nearby areas, including Thane, Ratnagiri, and Raigad districts, on February 25 and 26. The weather department predicted the temperature may rise further. 

On Tuesday, the Santacruz regional observatory of IMD recorded a day temperature of 38. 7 degrees Celsius, which was 5.9 degrees above normal. Meanwhile, the Colaba observatory recorded a day temperature of 34.6 degrees Celsius, which was  3.6 degrees above normal.

The hottest day recorded 10 years ago was February 19, when the temperature was 38.8 degrees Celsius. According to weather experts, the maximum temperature rose during the day due to easterly winds delaying the sea breeze.

Meanwhile, the weather experts has advised citizens to remain hydrated during the next few days and to avoid staying outdoors between 11 am and 4 pm without wearing a mask as the temperature will rise above normal for the next few days and maybe after three-four days, there will be a slight drop.
