Ahead of Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14, 2026, Mumbai Police issued a detailed traffic advisory on Friday for commuters travelling to and from Dadar. The announcement highlighted alternate routes and precautionary measures as the city prepares to mark the 135th birth anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. Authorities stated that a significant number of followers are expected to gather at Chaityabhoomi between April 13 and April 14. With the influx of visitors anticipated to be substantial, officials have planned extensive traffic arrangements to manage congestion and ensure smooth movement across key routes in the area.

Police officials further explained that heavy footfall near Chaityabhoomi is likely to disrupt vehicular movement on the surrounding roads. To address this, special traffic regulations will remain in force from noon on April 13 until midnight on April 14. Several key roads will operate under restrictions, including one-way systems and complete closures.

Road Closures From April 13 to 14:

  • S. K. Bole Road will function as a one-way stretch from Siddhivinayak Temple Junction to Portuguese Church, while the reverse direction will remain closed.
  • S.V.S. Road between Siddhivinayak Junction and Yes Bank Junction will be shut for all vehicles, with local residents advised to use Pandurang Naik Marg.
  • Additionally, Ranade Road and Dnyaneshwar Mandir Road up to Dadar Chowpatty will remain closed, and heavy vehicles will be diverted via L. J. Road from Mahim Junction.

Authorities also outlined detailed diversions for both southbound and northbound traffic to minimise disruption.

Route Diversions:

  • Vehicles travelling towards South Mumbai from the Western Express Highway should turn at Kalanagar Junction and proceed through Dharavi routes towards Sion Railway Station or continue via Dr. B. A. Road.
  • Commuters may also opt for the Bandra-Worli Sea Link as an alternative route.
  • The northbound traffic from Colaba or Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus will be redirected through P D’mello Road and R.A.K. Road, taking a turn near Matunga Arora Bridge towards Sion.
  • Vehicles from Mahalaxmi and the Eastern Express Highway will be guided via Rakhangi Chowk, Wadala Bridge, and the Eastern Freeway to maintain a steady traffic flow.

Other Traffic Movement Arrangements:

To further streamline arrangements, strict no-parking zones will be enforced on several major roads, including Veer Savarkar Road from Century Junction to Yes Bank Junction, Ranade Road, Dnyaneshwar Mandir Road, and both stretches of Keluskar Road. Designated parking facilities have been arranged at multiple locations, such as Senapati Bapat Road, India Bulls Finance Center in Elphinstone, Kohinoor Square near Shivaji Park, Kamgar Stadium, and Jupiter Mill Compound. An additional parking space will also be available near Five Gardens. These measures aim to reduce congestion, maintain order, and ensure the safety and convenience of devotees and daily commuters during the large-scale observance.
